James Dilzell, executive director of Eagle River Coalition, has announced that he will be stepping down from the role after more than 5 years at the organization.

The organization, Eagle River Coalition, advocates for the health of the Upper Colorado and Eagle River Basins within Eagle County. Its work includes community education, water quality monitoring, river restoration initiatives and advancing local river protection.

“It has been an honor to lead this organization, and such a learning experience for me. I am so proud of what staff has accomplished in the last couple of years, from introducing our new name and brand and completing the Community Water Plan to the incredible launch of the Beyond Lawn Program and numerous restoration projects. We’re working hard to advocate for the health of our rivers,” says Dilzell.  “I am confident that a new and talented leader will continue to grow the impact of our organization for years to come.”

Prior to becoming the executive director, James coordinated the education programs for the organization, including the development of the Eagle River Water Festival for all of the county’s fifth-graders and the expansion of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival.

“As I enter a new chapter professionally, I am so grateful to have the experience with Eagle River Coalition over the last few years. It has been an incredible opportunity for growth, and has very much solidified my passion for work in protecting our rivers and freshwater ecosystems.”

With challenges such as population growth, variable snowpack and water availability and new water rights development, the Eagle River Coalition’s role as the voice of the river ensures local waterways remain clean and flowing. The organization and its board of directors has sights set on organization expansion and effectiveness, in order to fulfill its mission and secure a vibrant future for the community.

“The Eagle River Coalition Board is very thankful for having James advance the organization’s goals and programs over the last several years including shepherding the Eagle River Community Water Plan through to implementation and for providing an amazing and inclusive working environment for our amazing staff,” said Board Vice-President Gary Brooks.   “It has been an honor to have him lead the organization during many challenging years for our local rivers and watershed.”

“Our goal for the next chapter of the Eagle River Coalition is to bring on a new Executive Director that can build on the great work accomplished by James and his team.  Someone who will continue to be an advocate for our local watersheds while ensuring the viability of the organization by building ties to the community, municipalities and other non-profits.”
