Top 8 Must-Do’s this autumn season.

  1. Respect the redds. During brown trout spawning season, please avoid disturbing redds, where eggs are deposited and fertilized. You can identify them as shallow, circular depressions in gravelly or silty areas of the riverbed. Whether you’re an angler or take your canine pal to the river to splash, please be extra cognizant before entering local streams.
  2. Please check that you have updated our mailing address. Last February, we moved offices from Gypsum to Eagle, and our mailing address is now PO Box 5740, Eagle, CO 81631. As we approach the year-end season and donors begin considering tax-deductible giving, we want to make sure our information is up to date in your records.
  3. Update your wardrobe. Check out our online gear inventory and prep yourself for winter with a cozy crewneck or knit beanie. These make great gifts too! See our branded gear.
  4. Get out and enjoy the season. Savor the golds of the aspens and cottonwoods, take a deep breath in this pause before the snow really flies, and make time for your favorite fall outdoor activities like hiking and biking.
  5. Mark your calendars. Save the date for the highway cleanup on May 2, 2026 and the river cleanup on September 12. PS – interested in sponsorship?
  6. Make a good soup. Autumn is soup season, and our development director Melanie won’t stop talking about this budget-friendly, easy, dairy-free leek and potato soup. It’s really stellar, so give it a shot.
  7. Get inspired with a film. One of our board members shared the film “Famous Last Words” about Jane Goodall, streaming on the Netflix platform. “It is a recent interview with her that she knew would be aired only after her death. It is magnificent and probably the most moving and powerful thing I have ever seen. Her words will revitalize all of us, and remind us of how critical it is to do our work.”
  8. Reach out to hear about how you can help support your local rivers. Email Melanie Smith, development director, to get started -we’d love to meet you! Whether as a volunteer, donor, sponsor, board member, etc., there’s a place for you in local river protection.
