Save the date for Eagle River Coalition and Wilderness Workshop’s annual Homestake Community Science Day, Saturday, July 11th 2026!
Join us for a hands-on exploration of the Homestake Valley, which is home to ancient fen wetlands. This rare ecosystem provides incredible biodiversity, native flora and fauna and is home to numerous threatened species. In the midst of an ongoing drought and the threat of a potential transmountain diversion, inventorying and understanding wetlands – a critical carbon sink in a changing climate – allows us to better advocate for these places now and into the future.
Thank you to our partners Walking Mountains, Colorado Natural Heritage Program, Colorado Mountain College and the Audubon Society for making this event possible by supporting with their knowledge and expertise.
We’ll be using the iNaturalist app to photograph plant species and add to the ongoing bioblitz project.
This event is an all day event with lots of standing and walking on unstable surfaces. Lunch is provided.
Cost – The cost of this event is free, however, the suggested donation of $20 helps Eagle River Coalition & Wilderness Workshop cover the cost of providing transportation from the meeting location in Minturn and lunch. If you’re so inclined, you may add an additional donation to cover the costs of other participants in the Homestake Community Science Day. Sincere thanks for your help making this event a success.
Registration will open soon, so stay tuned!
