Seeking Qualified Executive Director

Eagle River Coalition’s (ERC) mission is to advocate for the health of the Upper Colorado and Eagle River basins through research, education, and projects. The Coalition strives to protect and enhance the high-quality natural, scenic, and economic values that our rivers and tributaries provide to the citizens, visitors and wildlife of the Eagle River and Colorado River watersheds located in Eagle County.

ERC is hiring an Executive Director to lead this organization in fulfilling our mission, with emphasis on deepening community relationships and increasing the impact of restoration. The Executive Director oversees the strategic growth and ongoing operational efficiency of our programs and staff by providing executive direction on all program strategy, compliance, quality assurance, and organization administration.

The Executive Director is tasked with directing staff through the successful implementation of multiple restoration projects and initiatives on the horizon, including the development of an endowment fund. This seasoned leader must have experience with the development and implementation of a fundraising plan, setting ambitious fundraising goals, and meeting or exceeding those goals. Established relationships with local and regional community groups are a plus, and comfort in building relationships with funders and project partners (individuals, businesses, federal, state and local governments, etc.) is critical.

Required Experience, Skills and Abilities Include:

  • BA in nonprofit management, natural resources, business, environmental engineering or sustainability, or other relevant degree.
  • 7-10 years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Poise and comfort with public speaking engagements.
  • Demonstrated fundraising success.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be decisive and make sound decisions.
  • Strategic thinking, vision and mission-driven approach.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to hire and develop staff, motivate teams to provide high quality work, meet deadlines, focus on the organizational mission, and bring innovative solutions to the challenges they face.
  • Relationship building skills, ability to build trust, and create strong advocacy for the organization’s objectives.
  • High level of knowledge of the unique challenges of the Eagle River Watershed, the Colorado River Basin and the Eagle County community. Passion for and knowledge of rivers and watershed protection.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Experience working closely with a board of directors.
  • Experience implementing programs and strategic plans.
  • Budget creation and management. Sound fiscal decision-making. QuickBooks accounting software experience desired.
  • Resident of Eagle County is preferred.

Salary of $95,000-$110,000, dependent on experience. Competitive benefits include 401k; health insurance stipend; 10 paid vacation days to start; 12 paid holidays plus a continuous week off in December; paid sick leave; wellness (ski pass, health club, etc) reimbursement; professional development; sabbatical policy.

The Eagle River Coalition’s work extends throughout the Eagle River Watershed and Upper Colorado Watershed, with many in-person commitments. It is required to live within our watershed for this role. Offices are currently in Gypsum, CO with a generous work from home policy.
